Funny but thought provoking
Charles Kennedy has just resigned as leader of the Liberal Democrats in the UK because he has admitted to being an alcoholic and his party have used this as an excuse to stab him in the back.

The hypocrisy here is staggering....There is a long tradition in the UK of drunken politicians making fools of themselve and it never cost any of them their jobs:
The funniest was the reported antics of Dave Brown, former Foreign Secretary in the 60's of the then labour government.
Attending a reception in Peru, Mr Brown, considerably worse for wear, invited a guest in flowing purple robes to dance.........he was turned down " First, you are drunk"the guest is said to have replied. "Second this is not a waltz; it is the Peruvian national anthem. Third, I am not a woman; I am the Cardinal Archbishop of Lima." (Herald Tribune today page 3)
Winston Churchill famously replied in the House of commons to a female opposition leader's accusations of being drunk; "Madam I may be drunk today, but tomorrow I'll be sober, and you'll still be ugly"
Alan Clark was famous for drinking 3 bottles of wine at lunch everday....the list goes on and on....
I've been in Frankfurt for the past couple of days...but it being Frankfurt there isn't much of interest to report, other than it is freezing. I did meet an amazing woman in her 60s who came from Harlem in 1964, and has run a little bar devoted to jazz and good cheer since 1968...but more on her and her great place when I have more time......
I hope all of you are happy healthy, and comfortably settling in to the new year
Terry

I don't know anything about this Kennedy guy or the inner workings of the Liberal Dems but from the articles on the link you posted, it is clear that this guy had been an active alcoholic for years and everyone new about it. Why does the party leadership want him out now that he's actually dealing with the problem? Why didn't they get rid of him when he was acting like a drunken fool?
You see, I live in the most confessional society in the world. If he were an American politician, we would have all praised him for his courage and he certainly wouldn't have had to resign. Especially if his name is Kennedy....
Oh and Terry, you are welcome for the "we love black people" site. I thought it was hysterically funny and incredibly refreshing, especially the "your testimonials" section. It really exposes how people with the best intentions can be incredibly offensive. Don't you think?
All getting a little too political
Where are the photos of you looking cool or silly so we can all make funny comments on your travel experiences ??????????
Yes I feel sorry for the little alcholic scott but please lets have more of Terence in silly situations / weird and wonderful photos - where are the shots of NY with you and B ??????
Isn't it amazing that Sr. Winston Churchill was brilliant - even while deep "into his cups". God rest his soul. If only more politicans were like him - honest & forthright!
