After reading Freakonomics (http://www.freakonomics.com/) recently I’m looking at stats with a more jaded eye. What we think we see is often misleading and based on a conventional wisdom which can often be flawed.
That said the Economist Pocket World in Figures 2006, makes interesting reading.

MONEY AND QUALITY OF LIFE STATS

Of the top 10 as it sits today, only 3 are from industrialised countries. ( I’m being charitable counting Russia)
Muslims are a majority or a sizable minority 5 of the top 10
Only 3 are majority Christian or have a sizable Christian population.
Only 1 is in Africa
By 2050 only 1 presently industrialised country will be in the top 10.
Three will be from Africa 5 will be in Asia.
Lets hope we have solutions to poverty then which we don't have today.
