Cold Snap and Blood Pressure

A cold snap has hit the UK just in time for my return from all that sun down under. Tonight apparently we'll be hit with a snow storm. Not a big storm by North American standards, just 3 inches or so.

This is a big problem here.

To put it in perspective, Montreal International Airport has more snow plows than the whole UK.

Everything will grind to a halt.

I've recently discovered that I have high blood pressure.
I have to check it periodically with one of those store bought cuff things.
The problem is, this has become a bit of a compulsion.
The rate fluctuates as I relax or freak out at the readings.

When I went to the doc 3 weeks or so ago, a routine check showed a high reading. Each subsequent test got higher as I got more and more agitated, imagining all manner of complications. Today I go for a follow up and if this one is high, I go again in three weeks.

If it stays high, I'm going to have to get meds.
I'm such a baby when it comes to stuff like this.
Put me on a stage in front of 1000 Thai librarians and after the initial sphincter tightening 30 seconds or so, I relax into smooth chilled out confidence.

Strap a thingy around my arm, inflate it and I get all jumpy and silly.
Maybe I should cut out those double vodka tonics and cigs .

Save the comments I KNOW I have to do that.

I've been sitting on my couch, inflating and deflating the little cuff thingy, doing the "pretend indifference act" concentrating on the riveting BT advert then sneaking a glance at the reading as the cuff deflates.
High again
Yeesh.
The batteries have finally died so this particular compulsion will have to wait for a refill.
It will be interesting to see the reactions at work as they hear the buzzing noise from behind my closed door.
What the HELL is he doing in there?

Off to the docs, wish me luck!

Love to all
T

Buena suerte Terry!
Hope you don't need to take any medication for it, and that you can work it out with some "small" changes in your habits. I know it's not easy, but I hope...

Doesn't sound like much fun, T. Sorry you have to face such a scare. Try to be good to yourself, OK? Sleep, get some exercise and BREATHE!!

Put the machine down. It takes months if not years to control your blood pressure, so don't even go there. You are going round in a vicious circle by carrying on like this.

One good thing is when you go off the deep end and act a little crazy you can always blame the hypertension! Take it from one who knows.
