As I can't post any KL pics I'll leave you with some stuff from Saturday afternoon in HK.
As I've said before the, 30 pence fare on star ferry is the best deal in the tourist world. The view of the harbour can't be beat even if they've moved the terminal on the HK side to an inaccessible site on reclaimed land. The old spot was just too valuable it seems. On the Kowloon dock there was a little protest, ignored by the scurrying masses, expressing outrage at the suppression of the Falun sect in China. I guess protest is still allowed in HK as they were calling the Chinese premiere a criminal with seemingly no comeback. I went to Mongkok, one of the most densely populated places on earth and a mainstay of shopping in HK. More on it here and here.
Crowded and jammed with shops selling designer gear and stalls flogging fakes. They avoid prosecution by showing you a picture then someone scurries off to pick up your order. You can pick any model of any brand of watch or handbag. Nearby stores of the stuff must be huge.
All sorts of commerce is conducted here it seems. After getting off the ferry I took the MTR, which is HK's subway system. Its different from any other underground system I've been on as the train is one long car. This is a bit freaky going around corners because it bends like an articulated bus. Here's a pic from an earlier post to give you an idea.
This is about a third of the way down looking forward.
Its about three times as long.
The pic above is in Central on the HK side.
The one below is in Kowloon in Mongkok. A bit claustrophobic at times but being the height I am it was quite fun staring out above the bobbing heads and sternum head butts and seeing if I could spot the other end of the train.
Small things amuse idle minds. Contemplative and serene.
That's what the two gentlemen above seem to convey.
The reality is Hong Kong is possibly the rudest place on earth. You get so used to the pushing and shoving that it doesn't bother you after a while.
Think of a place where the guy in the elevator is madly punching the CLOSE button when he sees you making a dash for the doors.
The satisfaction of pushing a button below his floor is pure bliss.........
I went specifically to Mongkok to visit the Goldfish Market on Tung Choi street. It's really an early morning market, but there was still enough of interest when I visited.
Gold fish are meant to bring good luck and Honkies love em. Here are a few pics.
Weird looking buggers huh?
Like most cities, there is tons to see if you look up.
Consider the death defying ballet I watched while the oblivious below jabbered on their mobiles and powered along in their quest for yet a better deal.
Death or injury from above is a real possibility packed as people are on the sidewalk.
That's it for now as a long flight to Mumbai beckons
Love to all
