Being off for two weeks and chilling has its inevitable consequences: 600+ emails in my inbox....
Add to that a dose of the flu and two more hours in a dentist chair and it makes any sort of post of substance rather unrealistic.
I'll be in London with Jess over the weekend and fly to Capetown overnight on Sunday.
I'll be in South Africa for 10 days or so then Dubai for three.
September will be Brazil, Israel, Budapest and the UK.
With any luck there will be something of interest amongst the debris of travel from which to post.
(I hope so as I just got my new lenses and can't wait to see how different the pics will be!)
In the meantime for a smile, go here.
Love to all

Hi Terry
Jessica here re. BBC feature thing I spoke to you about yesterday. Your blog is fantastic. It will take me at least a month to get through properly.
Have you read “The Art of Travel” by Alain de Botton? No matter what you think of the author the book is so good. After reading it I vowed to start recording the details of my life, to draw sketches, take photos and write about every day experiences. The stuff that makes life life. Those good intentions slipped away so fast. I guess it’s laziness on my part. But you are doing exactly that, and you are in the perfect position to do so from so many corners of the world.
My trips are positively humbled by your list. The photos are fab – maybe you should do it professionally? I especially loved the ones of the toilet signs in Japan, Belfast (I’d never have pegged your accent from there), India floods, the pool at the Intercontinental juxtaposed with the street sleepers…. oh and the London sky shots.
But it was the X-ray of the neck that jumped out because I too have a bad neck and it does make sleeping really difficult. I always lift my head really carefully because I keep thinking I’m going to paralyse myself.
I was in Spain in July and saw a Korean doctor. Apart from being a total creep, he did seem to know what was causing the problem. He said my pelvis was twisted and was pushing up the internal organs on the left side of my body. And that was the root of the neck problem. He contradicted Europe’s top osteopath (who I see in Baker Street) but he did seem to fix it… for a while anyway … through a method of cupping, acupuncture, massage and weird leg kicking exercises.
Anyway, this is way too distracting. I’ve got to crack on and find my travellers. But please do keep on with your blog. What better record of your life for your daughter to have one day in the future. I can’t think of a better thing to do when your job takes you so wide and far. She’s gorgeous by the way - it must be hard seeing her in snatches.
Thanks for a good read and I look forward to reading more in the future – also, please let me know if you suddenly take a journey to one of our destinations.
Jessica
PS. Because I'm not au fait with things bloggy I'm not sure if this comment will even reach you. I hope so.
