Beijing

A quick hello from a chilly Beijing. There really hasn't been much time for pictures so I'll fall back on an old standby, food. The following are two different meals from two very different settings.Tripe....yumWhat do you think this is?This was a first: Shrimp cooked in a pot of red hot salt.Lunch today was in a pretty swish setting. It was an old palace built for a princess from a Dynasty of long ago. It was packed with antiques and traditionally costumed staff who were very keen to play their part ( bowing whilst serving, little dances and songs etc.) There was a shocking amount of food, the centre piece of which was a duck soup filled with Chinese "medicine" designed to make a man "strong".
You get my drift?
Sadly I noticed no discernible difference. It tasted nice if a bit fatty.
I'm here for a couple more days and with any luck I'll carve out a couple of hours and see something interesting tomorrow. I'm not dressed for the cold and an extended walk about isn't on the cards so the picture opps will be limited.
Stay well
T

That beef in lotus leaf looks....gloopy.

In my limited (southern China) experience, the cultural norm is to keep bringing out the nosh until you can't squeeze in another morsel. Something of a clash with the Western clear-your-plate before-you-leave-the-table ethic.

Have just remembered being forced to sit in front of a cold rabbit stew, pushing it round the plate for hours and hours. Bleuch. Haven't touched a Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail-based meal since.

Take care.

Maybe duck soup is a delayed release formulation, fat-soluble actives etc. Any signs of efficacy yet? Did you get the recipe?

We're dealing with a walk-in client who claims to have invented a novel way to *excite* women without physical stimuli. His test subject is his girlfriend. This tops the effervescent suppository on the list of unlikely inventions.

hey,
this might be the only time I've seen you wear a suit, complete with tie.
