It seems sometimes we speak but no one is listening.
Carrying on from my car "incident" yesterday, I waited for the phone to ring/email arrive from the person who's car I smacked.
Nothing.
In my naivete, I figured that I would be best off to call and report the incident to the Wimbledon police. After 4 or 5 attempts and being put on hold for 20 minutes at a time, the following conversation happened:
Hello?
Yes, Hi, I'd like to report an accident.
Where?
In Wimbledon, yesterday. I was pulling out of my parking spot and smacked into a Merc, there was a bit of damage and-
Anyone hurt? Where did this happen?
No , there was no one in the other car. I left a note.It was in the Center Court parking lot.
Centre Court? At the tennis?
No the shopping centre.
The shopping centre?
Yes.
When?
Sunday afternoon.
So?
So, I left a note but-
Thats private property.
What?
That's private property.
I guess. I left a -
Private property, not a police matter.
Well I -
What is it you want to do?
Well I guess, you know , let you know, that if someone reported their Merc getting bashed in the parking-
PRIVATE parking lot.
Yes, the private parking lot. If there was a report, and somehow my note got lost, well I'm your man. Is there a report?
I wouldn't know sir. Its private property.
So you mean if someone set fire to a car and it was caught on CCTV you wouldn't "attend?"
Was there a fire?
NO! There was no fire!. I hit a car in the parking lot and I just want to do the right thing. I-
I suggest you attend down at the Police station.
In Wimbledon?
Yes
But I live in Cambridge.
Well....... its your decision sir.
Look can't I just leave you my details, and if someone makes a report we can get in touch and sort this out?
Its private property and -
Yes I know, not a Police matter. So I can't leave my details?
No sir
Thank you, Good bye
Goodbye
CLICK
Well that's all much clearer then.

Wonder if the same applies to murder on private property? Just a thought.....afterall, if someone were to break into your home (privately owned), would there be no action taken? While I'm sure the death of a fender is not nearly as traumatic as the death of a living, breathing person - you have to wonder about the logic used......I'm I thinking too much about this? I think I need some reflection time and lots of shots of tequila - - better do so on private property - so I don't get in any trouble in public.....see the vicious cycle????
