Berlin Wall

The wall is something special in 20th century history. Though its pretty much gone and the wasteland that I saw 10 years or so ago has been transformed, there are still reminders wherever you look though I'm sure the residents of the city don't even see them anymore. Guidebooks even seem to minimise the wall in 2007 Berlin but there is evidence of the past hidden away here and there.

There is a sad memorial by the Riechstag though it seems its going to be dismantled soon.

You get the picture.
There seems to be some controversy over memorials to the wall.
They're being dismantled and there's no end of conspiracy theories to explain the reason for confining any acknowledgement to such a weird relic of east and west to the Checkpoint Charlie museum.
The whole thing is just not as big as you'd think.
Its not as in your face as you'd expect.
Like so many things in Germany its best relegated to the past...there but not there. Easy to say if you're not German and a flying visit ain't enough to understand the underlying collective psychosis of the place but jeeze.....Frankfurt I can understand, but Berlin?
I have a bunch more to post but its Friday and after midnight and as usual tomorrow I shoot off once again.
I don't fly until 11 pm, so between packing and Jess,I'll try to get it up .
I wanna clear the decks before RIO.

Be happy wherever you are.
I'll leave you with another pic of me and the army guy.

To bad they are taking down the memorials. Those pictures really bring the reality of that period to life. You'd hope they'd at least put up a statue or something in honor of those folks.

Nice pics as usual.
