Jess

I had a couple of days with my daughter in London and though the usual roadblocks curtailed the planned time we had, we made the most of what we got.
The weather has been terrible of late. Its a cold, wet,and windy English winter and I'm not going to miss it when I shoot off back to Asia in a week.
My 8 year old had her first "real" haircut last week and there was much flicking of the new fringe and stories of "you get a massage on your head when they wash your hair daddy!" related in minute detail. Not much to this post.
I just wanted to post pics of my kid.
There has been one sobering issue over the past little while:
It's seemed like every second day or so over the past 10, a text, email or voicemail has hit my Blackberry relating sad or tragic news from friends or friends of friends.
I'm not sure why this December seems to have brought tragedy to the lives of people I know, but its a rather sad reminder that as we head into the holiday season, there are many facing a bleak and sad time.
Bad stuff happens to good people and its hard to understand sometimes.
Being happy and healthy myself and blessed with a family in the same circumstances, I can only feel thankful and grateful.
I hope those of you not so fortunate can find your way through difficult times.
Love to all
T

Quite the little lady, growing up fast. I do wonder what pecuniary premium a "real" haircut attracts. Actually, I dread to think. Ah well, she's the very image of you and poppa T.

On bad stuff:
My theory, for what it's worth: it happens all year round, but can clump temporally. Maybe we feel it more keenly at this time of year when all are imbued with yuletime spirit?

Our kids grow up so fast.

On the bad stuff:
It does go on all year and some people suffer through incredible tragedy. The guy I sat beside last night at my son's Christmas concert lost his brother last week. Someone who had just lost his job walked back into his office in Vancouver and started shooting. His poor brother was in the line of fire. I also have a friend whose father is the Canadian diplomat who has been kidnapped in Niger. I have a family member who is having a tough time at the moment. It just hits harder at this time of the year. Terry - take care of yourself. Try to enjoy your life. Care for your family and your friends and try to live life to the fullest. I know it all sounds like a broken record, but it is important to remind yourself. It could all be over in a minute.

Take care buddy!
